This is a season of endings and beginnings for many of us. September sometimes feels like a mini-New Year to me, with the end of summer and the start of a new school year. Just last week, we wrapped up a LEAD 365 cohort, and we are kicking off four new cohorts this month. Needless to say, endings and beginnings are on my mind.

As a part of the last LEAD 365 session with our ninth cohort last week, we talked about what they learned doing the Looking Back on Your Life exercise (formerly more morbidly titled the Eulogy Exercise). Several participants agreed that it would be very helpful to revisit this worksheet often—at least once a year—to make sure that they are still on track to living the life they want to live. Rodger, Jeff, Gerald, and I hear those sentiments often, and yet it’s rare for an alumnus to actually take the time to do that balcony work. Quite frankly, it’s hard for me to take the time to make sure I’m living the life I want to live, and I have that worksheet in front of me multiple times a year.

Today, we want to challenge you to check in on your life. Rodger attached the Looking Back on Your Life worksheet to his email. Do you remember what you wrote when you first filled it out at the end of LEAD 365? How do you feel about your life and leadership right now? If you need to make a few changes, what are they, and what will help you change? Leading by DESIGN exists to help you live into who you are and who you hope to be, so please reach out to any one of us if you feel off track and want to talk about how to get back where you need to be, or if you are staying the course and want to celebrate. Either way, we’re here for you.

Until next week, lead on!
